Catahoula officially became a parish on March 23, 1808. In recognition of this event people from all parts of the parish are meeting to make plans for a month long celebration. Each weekend a celebration will take place at Enterprise, Harrisonburg, Jonesville, Larto or Sicily Island.

So far plans include:
Living history actors, dressed in period clothing, will portray historical people (circuit riders spreading the Gospel) and events (William Dunbar’s exploration of the Louisiana Purchase) that took place in Catahoula.
Duty Ferry rides with narrations where anyone can ride, free of charge, one of only a handful of ferries still operating in Louisiana. This is an experience children will remember for a lifetime.
Catahoula Cur Dog demonstrations will show the amazing abilities these dogs possess. This breed of dog was given its name because Catahoula is where they first appeared. War dogs brought to the new world by European explorers mated with Native American wolf dogs, resulting in the Catahoula Cur.
African American Heritage will be highlighted by speakers and demonstrations.
Horse and Buggy rides will provide relaxing, scenic views.
Black Powder exhibition will demonstrate early pioneer skills.
Old Fashion arts, crafts and demonstrations will show how Catahoula pioneers made many of the items used in everyday life.

Some other events planned are: Fishing tournaments, fish fry, archery contest, story telling, community yard sales and more.
